Bloodsuckers
Monday, December 8th, 2003 at 1626When something like this crops up, I find myself wondering whether the new charges / taxes / levies / fees / payments will ever actually lead to a reduction of charges elsewhere. Will they ever? Probably not. Why, as a government, let go of a good thing if people have adapted to accomodate it ?
One thing few people realise is that apparently, looking back through the history of public taxation and suchlike, taxes were brought in as a short-term measure and levied against only those who had money spare to pay them. But, after a while, why would any sane government tick let go of such a juicy blood vessel?
